1450 American Drive-in. The first drive-in restaurant in America was Kirbys Pig Stand in Dallas, Texas, established in 1921. The idea really took off and drive-ins had their heyday in the 1950s and 60s, to be superceded in later decades by drive-through restaurants. Here is artist Steve Crisps idyllic vision of Sids Drive-In beneath waving palm trees and a starry sky, with rollerskating waitresses and couples who are probably going steady.
